Read MoreThere are so many variables to consider when looking for massage employment. My first massage therapy job was back in the 90s, and I was paid $8 per hour even if I wasn't massaging, and I got to keep my tips.
Read MoreBack in grade school, I never remember seeing my dad call in sick when he was a 5th grade-school teacher. He would even go to work when he was miserably sick. I then asked him one day why he never called in sick, and he had tons of sick days built-up?

Read MoreMy birthday is tomorrow, and I remember back in the day when I would get discounts or free stuff if I redeemed them on my birthday? I’ve been keeping track this month and I’ve only received one thing and a long time ago I would have received many things by now.

Read MoreHave you ever experienced massage in a different country? I was in the Philippines the in the spring of 2012 visiting my wife’s relatives and I took full advantage of receiving regular reflexology treatments while I was there. The prices ranged from 30 pesos to 150 pesos for 20-30 minutes (42 pesos to the US dollar). With prices like these, I usually gave a large tip!
Read MoreFinding out how the client found out about your business is one of the best things that can be on your health form! The reason why you ask this question is pretty simple; you want to know what advertising is working for you. Let’s say you see a lot of people said they found you on your website, so once I saw that a lot, then I would focus more marketing time into adding content to your website.
Read MoreWhen I had my business, rebooking was one of the harder parts of the job and I usually failed at it miserably! Some of the main reasons I didn’t ask clients to rebook was I didn’t feel connected to them and I didn’t feel confident in my skills. Another reason I was afraid to rebook is because this one therapist I knew early in my career was like a car salesman and even told clients that if they don’t come in to see him weekly that they would get a lot worse…and that just scared me!
Read MoreThat’s what I thought right after I opened my business, but then the quickly changed my mind one month after opening it. I never had a business background and never ran a business before I opened my Massage Works on Main, but I thought I could do it without help…boy was I wrong.

Read MoreDo you remember when you first started massage school and everything was so overwhelming? Most instructors feel the same way when they teach a group of students for the first time too. Brand new students are fun to teach and most instructors would agree with me. I love it when their eyes light up when they learn something new and it brings pure joy to the instructor’s heart when the student mimics what the instructor just taught them.
Read MoreTrick for applying the oil, creme, lotion or gel: I was taught back in the 90’s to have a cupped hand on the body, pour the oil into my cupped hand, warm the oil up with the other hand and finally apply it to the body. I didn’t like that method, because it broke the flow of the treatment so I decided to have another option: apply the oil on the back of the hand that is massaging, warm it up on the back of that hand and finally apply it to the body when it’s warm…it’s that simple and you never lose your flow!

In 2001 I wanted to get information out to my students without taking up too much of my time. I started by wringing out massage techniques and eventually took pictures to go along with the instructions, but my students got confused so I asked another instructor at the school I worked at to help me videotape some of my techniques…and the rest is history!

When I first started massage school back in the 90’s, I honestly thought is was just about learning massage techniques, but I was so wrong! The first class I took was an intro class and it was mostly techniques, but I was the only one that went on for more schooling out of 17. That first class was 50 hours and about 40 hours of hands on and I fell in love with massage. Right after I was done with the intro class, I enrolled in the full program and loved every minute of it!
